The Drill Hall Studio is situated in a striking Colonial era former Military Drill Hall, built in 1905. One of only two pre-Federation military Drill Halls left in Queensland, The Drill Hall studio is Townsville’s newest art centre featuring a sculpture garden, exhibition space, working artist studios as well as retail art,  hand made gifts, accessories for you and your home, unique decor, art  jewellery and designer clothing.

Our aim is to make art accessible for everyone, with a friendly, creative atmosphere and a gallery that’s warm and inviting.

Restoring this incredible old building took 18 months of hard work.  Along the way there were plenty of surprises - some good, some not! We have taken special care to respect the Colonial architecture and the proud military history while gently nudging it back into shape after decades of neglect.

You’ll find us on the corner of Mitchell And Leichardt Streets, in the centre of Townsville’s leisure and tourism centre, in North Ward. Only a stone’s throw from the Strand, we are an easy stroll from the North Ward Shopping Centre, the Gregory Street cafe and shopping strip, with free parking right at the door. Make sure you pop in next time you are  in the area.
